Choose the work your home needs
- Bathroom remodeling: plan the shower, vanity, tile, lighting and any proposed plumbing changes together.
- Kitchen remodeling: review cabinetry, countertops, appliances and circulation before deciding which utilities or walls need to move.
- Home renovations and additions: distinguish an interior update from work that changes floor area, structure or the exterior.
- Decks and outdoor improvements: assess the existing condition, access and the connections to the house before choosing a repair or replacement approach.
Plan around the actual property
A coastal or hillside address does not tell us everything about a site. We review delivery access, parking, stairs, work areas and where materials can be staged without obstructing access. If the home remains occupied, the proposal should also identify which rooms stay usable and how people will move around the work.
Send the location, a short description, photos and available plans. Concealed framing, utilities and water damage still need assessment on site.
Confirm the right approval path
First confirm whether the parcel falls within the City of Malibu. City Building Safety and Planning review different parts of a project; work that changes plumbing, electrical systems, structure or the exterior may require different approvals. A mailing address alone is not an approval determination.
For a bathroom expansion or additional fixtures, ask whether the property's wastewater system needs review. We do not assume every cosmetic update requires a coastal permit, or that every interior remodel is exempt. The proposed work and parcel conditions guide the next steps.
Agree on scope before setting the schedule
Access, occupied rooms, selections and inspections affect cost and sequence. Record inclusions, exclusions and unresolved conditions before work.
Coastline DC Inc. has operated since 2002 under CSLB #813394. Our general business availability is Sunday-Friday, with no Saturday work. Onsite dates follow local restrictions; Malibu prohibits construction on Sundays and city holidays.
Questions about your project
Can we start with one bathroom?
Yes. A single-room scope can be reviewed on its own, including any shared plumbing, access or protection that may affect the rest of the home.
Is every Malibu project reviewed by the same agency?
No. Confirm the parcel jurisdiction and the scope first. City boundaries, coastal planning requirements and existing approvals can affect the review.
What should I send for an initial discussion?
Send the project location, the room or service you need, a brief description and photos. Mention stairs, difficult access and whether the home will remain occupied.
